Shelton

During my research into this project, I came across a city in Connecticut that bears the same name as myself - Shelton. Further research provided the following.

The city now known as Shelton was originally part of Stratford. It separated from Stratford in 1789 and was named Huntington. In 1915, the borough of Shelton was incorporated as a city, and four years later was consolidated with the town of Huntington to form the city of Shelton. The name of Shelton was chosen for the new city to honor Edward N. Shelton, who founded the Shelton company and the Ousatonic Water Power Company. He also sponsored the construction of the Derby-Shelton Dam.

The town of Shelton, CT, is 6 miles north of Milford and 61 miles north-east of New York City. As of the 2000 census, Shelton had a population of approximately 38,101.
