Climate

Connecticut has a generally temperate climate, with mild winters and warm summers.

Springtime in Connecticut is typified by variable temperatures and frequent rainfall.

Summer can be hot and humid throughout the state, with average highs of 81°F (27°C) in New London in the south and 87°F (31°C) further north in Windsor Locks. State-wide temperatures, however, average from 20° to 22ºC (or 68° to 72°F). Thunderstorms are most frequent during the summer, occurring on average 30 times annually. These storms can be severe, and the state usually averages one tornado per year.

Fall months are mild and bring colorful foliage across the state in October and November. During hurricane season, tropical cyclones occasionally affect the region.

 Winter months see the temperatures drop to an average -4° to -1°C (24° to 30°F). The average yearly snowfall for Connecticut is about 25"–100" (64cm –254 cm) across the state, with higher totals in the northwest.
